BANGALORE:
Rahul Dravid is up for sale. Yes, you read it right, Dravid, cricketing legend and former India captain, has put himself up for auction. No, he isn't desperate or anything like that, rather it is his compassion that has brought about this move, where the highest bidding corporate will get an interactive session with Dravid at their premises besides a personalized and framed cricket bat.
The proceeds will go to Karunashraya, an organization run by Bangalore Hospice Trust, which provides free-of-charge palliative care for cancer patients who are beyond cure.
It is not just his time to the winning corporate that Dravid is giving away during the 'Joy of Giving' week, he's also presented several pieces of highly-prized personal memorabilia to Karunashraya, including a signed bat and his India jersey which will be put up for auction to donors in the lead up to, and on, World Hospice Day (13th October 2012).
"Karunashraya's effort to alleviate the suffering of its patients is commendable. Since inception, the team has touched the lives of thousands of people, helping those who are most in need of care. I am deeply appreciative of the Trust's efforts in providing dignity to life when there is little else left, and I hope more people will step forward to help," said Dravid in a statement.
For donor passes to the event including dinner, interested persons may call 9743639503, 9880846173, 9886743319 or Karunashraya on (080) 4268 5666 and (080) 2847 6133. Completed forms for the auction need to be submitted by 5.00 pm on Tuesday, October 9, 2012.
All proceeds from the auction will be directed toward the operational requirements and costs of Karunashraya, which translates to 'Abode of Compassion.'
